Where customization fits
The usual workflow is:
Create or choose a Template — define the structure.
Customize the note — adjust detail and formatting for this encounter.
Use Learn — turn reusable edits to a generated note into a saved template update.
Note customization can apply to the note you are working on. Default preferences can be managed from Settings → Note Settings.
To adjust the current generated note, open Customize in its toolbar. The tooltip is Customize note output. Choose your preferences, then select Regenerate Note to apply them.
Available settings
Detail level
Use the detail level control to adjust how detailed your note should be:
Concise — pertinent positives, key negatives, active problems, and essential plan details only.
Balanced — clear structure with enough depth for most encounters.
Thorough — expanded context and more complete documentation for complex encounters.
Quotes
Enable Quotes when exact patient statements should be preserved in the note.
Useful for:
Symptoms expressed in the patient's own words
Mental health, emotional, or psychosocial concerns
Sensitive issues where exact phrasing matters
Abbreviations
Toggle Abbreviations to use standard medical shorthand when appropriate, such as HTN, DM, SOB, or BID.
If you prefer expanded terms for clarity, keep abbreviations off or specify your preference in the template.
Bullets
Bullets prefers bullet points where your template and saved style allow. The active template, including any changes saved by Learn, can determine the format of a section.
Applying customization
After adjusting settings, click Regenerate Note to apply them to the current note.
To reuse these choices, select Save as default for future notes before regenerating. You can also change defaults in Settings → Note Settings.
Frequently asked questions
Does turning Bullets off force paragraph-style notes?
Does turning Bullets off force paragraph-style notes?
No. Turning Bullets off removes that preference; it does not force paragraphs or override the active template or applicable saved style. Put the desired paragraph structure in your template, or demonstrate it by editing a generated note and selecting Learn. Review the resulting template version.
