Reference Notes adds saved notes as context when generating another note. Choose either setting or enable both:

Enable Reference Notes
Open Settings at the bottom of the left sidebar.
Under Preferences, select Note Settings.
Turn on Reference Current Encounter Notes, Reference Previous Patient Notes, or both.
These reference-source settings are managed in Settings → Note Settings. The note toolbar's Customize panel controls detail level, Quotes, Abbreviations, and Bullets.
Use notes from the same encounter
Use this when one encounter has more than one output, such as a SOAP note, referral letter, patient instructions, PDF form, or follow-up summary.
When enabled, Vero can use other saved notes from the same encounter when generating a new note in that encounter. This is useful when a later document should reuse details that were already captured and reviewed in an earlier note from the same visit.
Use previous patient notes
Use this when you want Vero to consider recent historical notes when generating a new note for the same patient.
This is helpful for follow-up visits, consult updates, and workflows where the prior assessment or plan should inform the updated note.
Attach the patient to the current encounter. Vero selects up to five notes, newest by note creation date, from that patient's encounters created before the current encounter. Several selected notes can come from the same earlier encounter.
Previous patient notes are background context. The current transcript, written context, uploaded files, attached patient profile, and your current instructions should still drive the new note.
Frequently asked questions
Does this resume or overwrite an old encounter?
No. For a follow-up visit, open the existing patient profile and select New Encounter. Reference Previous Patient Notes supplies prior context for the new encounter.
Does Vero use the entire patient chart?
No. Reference Previous Patient Notes supplies up to five recent notes from earlier encounters for the attached patient. It does not include the entire chart.
What if older information conflicts with today’s visit?
Treat previous notes as historical context. Confirm the current information and correct the generated note before charting. Always review the result; enabling Reference Notes does not establish that an older diagnosis, medication, or plan remains current.
