What Reference Notes Does
Reference Notes lets Vero use saved notes as additional context when generating another note.
There are two separate settings:
Reference Current Encounter Notes - uses saved notes from the same encounter.
Reference Previous Patient Notes - uses one prior note from the same attached patient as historical context.
Example: If you already generated a SOAP note, a referral letter from the same encounter can reference details captured in that SOAP note. If you attach the same patient to a later encounter, Vero can also use that patient's most recent previous note as background context.
Reference Current Encounter Notes
Use this when one encounter has more than one output, such as a SOAP note, referral letter, patient instructions, PDF form, or follow-up summary.
When enabled, Vero can use other saved notes from the same encounter when generating a new note in that encounter. This is useful when a later document should reuse details that were already captured and reviewed in an earlier note from the same visit.
Reference Previous Patient Notes
Use this when you want Vero to consider the patient's most recent previous note when generating a new note for the same patient.
This is helpful for follow-up visits, consult updates, and workflows where the prior assessment or plan should inform the updated note.
To use this feature, the current encounter must have a patient attached. Vero looks for the most recent previous encounter for that patient, then uses the most recently updated usable note from that encounter as historical context.
Previous patient notes are background context. The current transcript, written context, uploaded files, attached patient profile, and your current instructions should still drive the new note.
When to Turn It On
You often create multiple notes or documents from the same encounter.
You want a referral letter, form, or summary to reuse relevant details from an earlier note in the encounter.
You see the same patient over time and want the newest note to account for the prior visit.
You want to reduce repeatedly copying a prior consult summary into the written context box.
How to Enable Reference Notes
Open Account.
Go to Preferences.
Turn on Reference Current Encounter Notes, Reference Previous Patient Notes, or both.
You can also adjust note preferences for an individual encounter when regenerating a note.
Important Notes
Reference Current Encounter Notes uses notes from the same encounter only.
Reference Previous Patient Notes requires the current encounter to be attached to a patient.
Reference Previous Patient Notes uses the most recent previous encounter, not the entire patient chart.
Previous patient notes are historical context, not a replacement for current source material or clinician review.
If current-visit information conflicts with an older note, review the generated output carefully and correct it before charting.
Always review generated notes before adding them to the medical record or sharing them.
