Dictation

Use your voice to enter text in an editor or chat message, and troubleshoot live dictation.

Dictation turns your speech into text in a Vero editor or chat message. Use it to write context, edit a note, or compose a message with your voice. To record an encounter and generate a structured note, follow Recording.

Before you start

  • Pause any active encounter recording before starting dictation. Stop dictation before starting encounter recording.

  • Allow microphone access and use a microphone that clearly captures your voice.

  • Live dictation uses the language selected under Settings → Language → Output Language. Its supported-language list is narrower than encounter recording; see Language Support.

Dictate into an editor

  1. Place the cursor where you want text to appear.

  2. Select the microphone control labeled Start dictation in the editor toolbar.

  3. Wait for the connection to start, then speak. Text appears in the editor and may update as the phrase is finalized.

  4. Select Stop dictation and wait for it to finish.

  5. Review the text, including names, medications, doses, punctuation, and line breaks.

Dictate a chat message

  1. Open Vero Chat or Evidence and select Start dictation beside the message composer.

  2. Speak your message, then select Stop dictation.

  3. Review and edit the text before sending it.

Improve transcription quality

  • Speak naturally in complete phrases and pause between sentences.

  • Reduce background noise and keep the microphone within clear speaking range.

  • Say names, medication names, doses, and measurements clearly, then check the resulting text.

  • Edit punctuation and paragraph breaks when needed.

  • Use Text Replacements: Fix Spellings and Expand Abbreviations for recurring substitutions in generated notes; it is not a replacement for reviewing dictated text.

Troubleshooting

Dictation stops after inactivity

Live dictation can stop after two minutes without audio. Select Start dictation to begin again. This is separate from the no-audio warning during encounter recording.

The microphone does not start

Confirm that encounter recording is paused, microphone permission is allowed, and your selected Output Language supports live dictation. See Microphone and Browser Troubleshooting.

Dictation reconnects or shows an error

Wait for the connection status to settle and check the text already captured. If the same error returns, contact Vero Support with the exact message, approximate time, device, and browser or app version. Preserve your text and do not clear encounters or account data to troubleshoot.

Frequently asked questions

Does dictation create a finished note?

Dictation inserts text where you are working. If you dictate encounter context, select Create separately to generate a note from that context. If you dictate into a generated note, review the edit before using it.

What happens to my audio?

Audio is sent for transcription. See Data Management for the distinction between live recording audio and intentionally uploaded audio, and Privacy & Security for data handling.
